Baobab oil comes from seeds of the baobab fruit. The seeds are rich in oil and they have been used traditionally in Africa .

The oil is obtained from the seeds using the cold pressed method. This is the best in terms of conserving nutrients and preventing contamination of oil with unwanted chemicals. However, baobab oil is not edible because of the presence of certain toxic compounds.

Baobab oil is made from baobab seeds. The baobab fruit’s hard outer shell is cracked open and the inside powder and seeds are removed.

The seeds are then taken and washed to remove their powder coating and then air dried in the hot African sun.  These seeds can be stored for many months before further processing.

The oil is extracted from the seeds by the cold-press process.  An oil press, or expeller, ‘squeezes’ the oil from the baobab seed.  The freshly pressed oil is filtered immediately which clarifies the oil, before being bottled.  Rawtanica Baobab Oil has not undergone any further refinement or processing and has no additives. We are proud to say that our oil is 100% pure.

Baobab oil is detrimental to human health if ingested and should not be used as food or in food products.Baobab oil contains CPFA (Cyclopropenoic Fatty Acids) at the range between 10% and 12.8%, depending on the nature of a Baobab product. The level of CPFA, which cannot harm (tolerate limit) users of Baobab oil, is 0.4% if ingested.
